Professional supervision

If you work with young people, having professional supervision should be like having holidays. Something you do throughout the year to stay fresh and healthy.

If you haven’t had professional supervision before, you might be wondering what it is. And a holiday is a perfect starting point.

When you get home from a trip, you have to unpack your bag and wash all the dirty clothes. You pop your toiletries away and then put your suitcase back in its cupboard for next time.

Professional supervision is the unpacking of your mind.

What happens in a session

During a session, you might do a couple of these things:

Reflect on what you did in a situation and how that links to theory and best practice

Sort through pressing issues on your plate and work out a manageable way to maintain life balance

Think about how your feelings or thoughts impact on your behaviours or actions

I like to identify your strengths and use them to develop better ways of working. And it’s about challenging youth workers to tie their practice to theory and be strategic.

I’m a big believer in working smarter, not harder.

What it costs

Yep it costs money. I’ve thought hard about how to provide the best support to people in this field and still pay myself some sort of wage.

A one hour session costs $100 and most people do one or two sessions in each school term.

Most supervisors spend and hour with you and it ends there. But that’s not how I work.

As well as that hour of sorting through your practice and taking it to the next level, you can get these free extras:

  • Webinars on the first Thursday of every month where we explore one area of working with young people or caring for yourself
  • A 30 minute consult to fine tune your work plan or annual goals and outcomes
  • Free printables and planning worksheets

We can do professional supervision face-to-face, by phone or via Skype, depending on your location. I make trips to Toowoomba and Cairns each term, and do face-to-face sessions in Brisbane.

Do you need to sort out your supervision?

Don’t put it off any longer. Find someone who can walk beside you and bring out the best in your practice. If you’d like to give my style a try, then make a booking and we’ll get started!

If you’d like some more information before making a decision, check out my story. Or send me a message and I’ll give you call. I’d love to help you figure out a plan that works best for you.

If you don’t think I’m the right fit, or you’d like to find someone local, check out my article on what to look for in a supervisor. Make sure you find someone with the right skills and knowledge, not just the most convenient.

I also offer group discounts and an intensive support package. Message me for more details.
